Black Professional Athletes Analysis

Since Carmelo Anthony’s call to action over the summer, there has been an outpouring of peaceful demonstrations by black professional athletes. We’ve seen everything from athletes sporting t-shirts during warm-ups to town halls to Colin Kaepernick inspiring players to kneel during the playing of the National Anthem. All of these methods have gotten the attention of the general public and now the question is: what does one do with all this attention?

The challenge now is that athlete must make sure that these actions aren’t in vain for what the message is. If they go through all of this and nothing changes it would all be for nothing. We’ve seen black athletes voice their opinions on the injustices in the world before. They’ve indulged in hashtags on social media and given statement every time a video is released of a

This comment lets us know that you are aware of what’s going on and that you care. It lets us know that you understand that no matter how famous you may be or how successful you may become you are still a black man living in America. You know that even someone like you who is well on their way to being the first billionaire athlete, you know that you have the same fears for your children that every black parent living in America has anytime their child leaves the house.

Since you are aware of these things be the catalyst in taking the next step. You have stated that you do plan to stand during the National Anthem and you should because you are not Kaepernick. You are a bigger entity and have a bigger brand and outreach than Kaepernick does. Your influence goes past igniting a conversation and you have the power to make things happen. In this path to change, there is some whose role will be to start fires while others role will be to make sure that, that fire stays lit and serves its
