The Black Panther Party was founded in October of 1966 by Bobby Seale and Huey Newton. Bobby and Huey were both studying at Merritt College when they met. They created the group to fight white oppression after seeing many African Americans suffer from police brutality. They had chosen the name Black panthers because the Black Panthers didn’t strike first, “but if the aggressor strikes first, then he’ll attack.”
The Black Panthers had advised a 10 point plan that had everything they wanted to change. The plan had basic demands and also more radical demands. There first point was “We Want Freedom. The FBI used many dirty strategies to stop the efforts of the BPP, and later succeeded. Some things the FBI did are like forging letters to start a conflict between the BPP’s leaders, organizing the murders of BPP leaders, starting a “Black Propaganda” campaign to convince the people that the BPP was a threat to national security, committing crimes that could be blamed on the BPP so that leaders could be arrested and writing threatening letters to jurors during trials so that the BPP would be guilty of crimes they didn't …show more content…
Women helped with maintaining many programs such as the Clinicas and the Free food and Breakfast Programs. Women also defied society then and represented strong, gun holding women

Huey became disillusional and addicted to drugs.He began getting into drugs because of all the how hard it was etting to maintain a group when the FBI was constantly attacking them. On August 22, 1989, Newton was shot dead on the streets of Oakland during drug dispute.
