(5) The process of combustion is when oxygen has a chemical reaction to heat, but the speed of combustion depends on the amount of oxygen available and the amount of heat applied. All the fire needs to burn is heat, fuel, and oxygen known as the fire triangle or fire tetrahedron when you place the chemical chain reaction in the formula. Fuel can come in a solid, liquid, or gas. In combustion, only gasses react. In complete combustion the flame will typically be blue and you will have charring effects left over, but there needs to be enough oxygen present to mix completely with the gasses and the fire will only produce water and carbon dioxide which means there will be no smoke. An example of complete combustion is when you have a natural gas burning stove top. Incomplete combustion is when there aren’t enough oxygen molecules during the chemical reaction and the flame is usually orange or yellow. When incomplete combustion occurs, there will be smoke present and carbon, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and oxygen molecules will be produced by the fire. It is very important when using liquid gas fires to always have a carbon monoxide detector preset. Carbon monoxide is a colorless odorless invisible gas produced from incomplete combustions and it will disguise itself as oxygen and enter your lungs but then is discovered not to be real oxygen and you will suffer respitory
