Black Narrative

Being in the dark and with no power is one thing, but when your sibling ends up having a seizure, things are different and the risk gets higher. This was more memorable than any other black out that we experienced in our life. The reason why is because it was the day that would begin the many trips to the hospital that my sister had to go through. This was how it began. It was around 4:30 in the morning when the blackout began. I remember the dark, empty void of a room I was in. I got out of bed and tried finding my way through. The floor of the basement was cold as snow beneath my feet as I wandered to the bottom of the stairs, where I saw dad at the time with a flashlight, guiding me toward the light like I was a moth. We went upstairs …show more content…
James was okay, but when they checked Kaela, there was a different story. My parents decided to call 911 due to the uncontrollable shaking she was doing.
Mom and dad told us to go to the basement, so when the ambulance came, we didn’t have to see the sight of our sister on the stretcher. We had a candle and some flashlights to see clearly in the translucent darkness. I couldn’t see what was happening upstairs, but I could hear them bring in a stretcher, the clanking and rolling noise of the wheels against the floor of the upper floor as it was preparing to take my sister into the hospital.
As the doctors exited the house with my sister in the stretcher, mom and dad told us it was okay to go upstairs. They said that they were going to the hospital with Starr and Ryker, and that me, James, and Lance were going to stay here at home, So, when they left, we were left here, with no electricity, waiting for our sister to come back alive. For breakfast, I decided to have a pack of Pop Tarts, because it didn’t need to be cooked and it was more better than cereal, since I had it repeatedly in the past, and really got

My stomach was in knots and turning with butterflies dancing around inside me, because at that age, I was so afraid of doctors and hospitals. After finally making it to an elevator and up to the Kendall’s floor, walking all the way to the end of the floral wallpapered yellow walls of the hospital to the end of the hallway, I became even more nervous to walk in and see Kendall, not knowing what she had looked like but knowing she was really sick. I can only remember so much because I was so young, but I will never forget walking down the hallway with Kendall and Breighanna, headed to get blue raspberry slushies. In Kendall’s hospital room, we sat there and laughed at how blue our tongues and lips looked after finishing them. As always, we had our pictures taken by our mothers while we sat along Kendall’s uncomfortable, white sheeted, hospital bed telling stories and laughing, as if it were just another day.…

Walking by the White House on Thanksgiving Day with my aunts, uncles and cousins, my uncle said out loud, “I spy with my little eye a black dot” and while it might not seem like so a big thing, my family knew what he was talking about, he was talking about President Obama.
