Book Review on Black Mamba Boy
Black Mamba Boy was published in 2009 by Nadifa Mohamed. The author writes about her father, Jama, who is also the main character in this novel. The title of this book refers to the black mamba snake, one of the deadliest serpents in the world. Jama might have been a man who was strong-minded and determined to accomplish his plans because he decides to go on a quest to find his father. This book is written from the author’s point of view. The genres of this book are adventure, and the cause of travelling because when Jama goes looking for his father, he travels and goes on adventures. Another curial genre is historical fiction because this book starts in October of 1935. The author uses her father as the main character to rationalize his life and his voyages. Mohamed uses many Arabic words and expressions, which makes the book challenging for young readers. She uses rich, meaningful vocabulary, which helps in the understanding of the story. Some parts of the book are not very clear, and sometimes hard to understand. In some chapters, Nadifa Mohamed doesn’t exactly explain what is happening, so reading the passage a second time is the key to understanding the book. Personally, I think this …show more content…
Mohamed titles her chapters to where Jama went, making it clear to where the story takes place. This book expresses many strong emotions, and people might view it differently. I think this book is about looking for someone and never giving up. Jama finds himself in a large world, all alone, with no one to turn to. He decides to take responsibility into his own hands, and look for his father. I think that if a person is ever found alone or lost, they should stay strong and face the world with a different point of view because sometimes it might lead them to the
