One huge difference between the two is the starting point. The Black Lives Matter was created after the Civil Rights movement, so all the rights gained during that time allowed for the BLM movement to have more of a standing when starting, than the Civil Rights. The 1950-1960 movement had the 14th amendment “citizenship to all persons born or naturalized in the United States — including former slaves — and guaranteed all citizens “equal protection of the laws.” (14th Amendment). They also had the 13th amendment which states “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction” (13th Amendment). But when BLM started it had the 13th and 14th Amendment, the voting right acts, civil rights law and a lot more when they were starting in 2013. The biggest difference between the two groups is what they were focused on. The Civil Rights Movement was solely based around geographically “blacks to gain equal rights under the law in the United States.” (Civil Rights Movement). All of the protesting was to stop segregation in the USA, mostly in the south. However, The Black Lives Matter is international, it’s trying to fight injustices all around the world, rather than in one spot or country. And they’re better equipped to do that with the advancements in technology, making it easier to interact with others with social media. The last difference between the two is the acceptance and mentions of LGBT people. Because of being in the 1950’s the civil rights movement didn’t show publicly any support for the lgbt. While The Black Lives Matter shows publicly that they’re accepting of all people “We affirm the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender
