He had a conviction charge from when he was 19 years old for sleeping with a under age girl. The media stated that the police was responding to a 911 call reporting a man brandishing a gun. Upon arrival of the 2 officers, words were exchanged which lead to a scuffle with Alston Sterling. The officer stated that Sterling was reaching for a gun with the free arm that they could not pin down. Shots were fired by both officers. In my opinion, I believe it was contagious fire once adrenalin came into play. As a civilian watching the video I would be upset. The media jumped on this case especially since it spread like wildfire on social media outlets. Police found no explosives during sweeps of the area as per the Dallas Police Chief.
“President Obama gave a statement Thursday night condemning the killings as a despicable attack on law enforcement and pointing to the need for gun control. There is no possible justification for these kinds of attacks or any violence against law enforcement he said. We also know when people are armed with powerful weapons, unfortunately, it makes attacks like these more deadly and more tragic. And in these days ahead were going to have to consider those realities as well.”
The reason I chose this topic is because the media was all over this incident especially since everyone had questions on what happened and who did it. Also because it was a Black Lives Matter protest that was aimed at exposing police brutality and racial disparities in the criminal justice system.
