Black Lives Matter Movement Research Paper

A problem that is immensely significant to me is the killing of African Americans by law enforcement. As a member of the African American community, this affects me along with my everyday life because it could happen to someone in my family or someone whom I am close to. I would also like to point out that there are very few cases where the police officer who killed the civilian gets penalized; keep in mind, the punishments are very minimal. In my opinion, they are getting rewarded for killing black people. As a member of law enforcement, their job is to protect and serve the community, but it seems like all they are trying to achieve is inflict fear upon and intimidate people. Now, there are international connections that have been forged in countries such as Canada, Australia, and the United Kingdom, who support our campaign and struggle for justice. This demonstrates that even with a humble start, any one thing can develop into something tremendously substantial. The BLM movement has faced many obstacles such as bigotry and very harsh criticism. There was even an incident where the wife of a Massachusetts police officer falsified reports about members of the Black Lives Matter movement breaking into and robbing her home. It was later proven that her story was fictitious, and that she, in fact, staged the robbery herself; she even went as far as spray painting “BLM” on the side of her home. Notwithstanding complications such as these, the Black Lives Matter movement still manages to continue to fight for the rights of people of color. Multiple people compare the BLM movement to the “Black Panthers” because we are basically fighting for the same things.
