Moments later, an altercation occurred between Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman which led to the fatal shooting of unarmed, black, seventeen year old. From Martin’s death, the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter was pioneered by Patrice Cullors, Alicia Garza and Opal Tometi, activists who were very active on incarceration, immigration and domestic labor campaigns. Many individuals, including the Black Lives Matter movement took the streets after the election of Trump chanting “Not my president” and “We don’t accept the president elect” to voice their outrage and frustration over the recent presidential-nominee (Swaine, 2016). Despite, the public outrage that Trump’s election sparked, he was still sworn into office on January 20th 2017. Regardless of him taking office, people were not going to voluntarily let Trump pass executive orders without voicing their opinion.
