With today’s generation constantly on social media, it seemed appropriate that #BlackLivesMatter on Twitter is what started it all and proved to be the making of this movement. After the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner in 2014, once again by white policeman, Black Lives Matter took off nationally (Garcia and Sharif). African Americans were not the only ones outraged by this however, as many races took place in the frequent protests. Despite demonstration of objection from millions around the world, there were several more deaths caused by the doing of law enforcement. Even celebrities have taken a stand regarding Black Lives Matter. The President of the United States, Barack Obama, showed support to after the death of police officers in Dallas due to Black Lives Matter but recognized how this movement could become an issue if, “BLM sympathizers attack law enforcement, they are doing a disservice to the cause (Flores). This lead to the argument that black lives are not the only lives that matter but in fact, “Black lives matter, White lives matter, Asian lives matter, Hispanic lives matter, the idea being that all lives matter just the same” (Kluger). All Lives Matter is the key solution to resolving the segregation of race. With Black Lives Matter becoming a major issue, capturing the attention of many, it has become apparent that people have taken advantage of the spotlight. Yes, Black lives do matter, but so do White lives, Hispanic lives, Muslim lives, and every other race present in our country matters just the same. So why do African Americans get all the spotlight? By proposing that All Lives Matter instead of Black Lives Matter, it will most definitely gain support from a handful of people, and once the African American race realizes that there is a much bigger issue at hand, they too will support All Lives Matter. This movement will prove to make more progress and will most likely reach the goal of everybody in our country getting along and coming together as one. It will make our country a better place to live and create more opportunities for minorities along with making our nation a place that other countries strive to
