In Text 1, Paragraph 2, Obama states, “I think the reason that the organizers used the phrase ‘Black Lives Matter’ was not because they were suggesting nobody else’s lives matter. What they were suggesting was, there is a specific problem that is happening in the African-American community that’s not happening in other communities. And that is a legitimate issue that we have to address.” Based on the quote above, we can analyze that the creators of “Black Lives Matter” did not want to single anyone out or make them feel any less deserving of equal rights. They just wanted to bring up the awareness of the hard fought issues that African Americans face each day. Claims tend to break off into two different groups during this conversation of topic. When the founding fathers drew up the declaration of independence, black lives were never taken up for consideration. Even the Constitution disclosed that all African American slaves only made up 3/5th’s of a white human being (Text 4, Paragraph 6). Two important ideas formed in Text 4 really changed the perception of “All Lives Matter.” In paragraph 3, the author of “What’s the Matter with All Lives Matter,” states, “When People say ‘All Lives Matter’ in response to ‘Black Lives Matter,’ they aren't simply opening their arms to a greater diversity of humanity. Instead, they are taking race out of the conversation.” Paragraph 7 also claims, “Putting it simply, if we erase race, we won’t see racism.” Both remarks represent how if we stop facing racism head on, it will never result in a solution. Problems and conflicts have to be solved through careful planning and techniques. A copious amount of people in todays society distaste to talk about race.
