Black Live Matter Movement Analysis

The black lives matter movement is an international activist movement, originating in the African American community that campaigns against violence toward black people. The movement organizes protest and holds rallies and marches around the deaths of black people in the killings by police officers. They also protest against other issues such as racial profiling, racial inequality, and police brutality. The movement was established in 2012 following the murder of Trayvon Martin. The movement was founded by three community organizers, Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi. More than five hundred member participated in this non-violent protest. The movement was one the best organized groups, therefore being nationally recognized as an emerging movement. Since then, The Black Live Matter movement has organized over one thousand protests. The movement is known to build power through protest by holding rallies and marches and they have also staged die-ins. During their rallies and marches they shout out slogans that represent some of the victims. Some slogans they use are, “Hands up, don’t shoot”, in reference to Michael Brown, “I can’t breathe”, in reference to Eric Garner, “No justice, no peace”, and many more slogans.
