In the short film, Black Hole the protagonist creates technology in the form of a black hole, and uses it to help satisfy his curiosity and then greed. Ultimately, he is consumed by his own creation, greed, and becomes a victim of undesirable revenge effects.
Simply by the setting of the short film the viewers can conclude that the actor may be at the office by himself around three in the morning, based on the clock in the background of the film. These details are noticeable because it was a long shot, Dave and Maria Viera state that “…. a long shot concentrates on establishing a sense of place….” (122). The viewers can also infer that the protagonist’s job isn’t very exciting based on the lighting of the film, because if it were a pleasant

When the protagonist pulls out the first stack of money and looks at it with amazement is when the viewer can confirm that greed is about to take over, because he could’ve stopped with the candy bar he had stolen, but now his desire has increased to a higher level of thievery because of greed. He starts to take more money out of the safe and with each handful taken out of the safe the more his facial expressions give off the feeling of desperation. Also, the life saver sound the black hole makes continues to grow louder and louder the farther he grabs inside of the hole. The feeling of desperation is also conveyed in this portion of the film because the protagonist starts taking out the money faster and in greater …show more content…
It is stated in slack and wise that revenge effects “… which might not be desirable or undesirable, are unforeseen consequences…” (55), and in the protagonist case the revenge effect was undesirable. If the actor hadn’t been so greedy he wouldn’t have gotten stuck in the safe, and it can also be concluded that technology isn’t always reliable and we can’t put all our trust in it. If the protagonist had not fallen into immoderation and would have stopped at taking the candy bar from the vending machine, he could’ve left the office with his invention and profited from it legally. If the protagonist had been more responsible with what he had created he would not have been consumed by greed, desperation, his own selfish desires, and he would not have fallen victim of undesirable revenge effects. Technology is what we make it and if we look at the short film morally it can be concluded that if we choose to use technology for evil the consequences that come along with that choice are on us not

In the story The Money, by Junot Dìaz, I see the main idea as centering on the theme of trust. Throughout the narrative, that theme seems to be the component that links the characters together and runs through their relationships with each other. The mother saved up money to send to her parents and they trusted her to send them the money. She also trusted her kids with the knowledge of where the money was kept, and the boy trusted his friends with the knowledge of the money being in his house. While this is the underline theme and main point, a sub theme is to be careful who you trust.…

In regards to the Anna Pou case, I think that I would have made a similar decision with the information that Dr. Pou had at the time. In our textbook, it states that the remaining staff after Hurricane Katrina believed that “no further evacuation or help was coming to them (Pence 56).” Therefore, the staff decided to euthanize the remaining nine patients to avoid any unnecessary pain and suffering. Prior to making this decision, I would have contacted the administrators of Memorial Hospital and the parent organization of the hospital (LifeCare) in order to find a way to accommodate these patients without euthanasia. The lack of communication between the parent organization and the hospital staff seemed to be a defining factor with this case…

I grew up in a neighborhood where laughter, smiles, happiness, hope and police presence was just as rare as finding a four-leaf clover. Naturally, given the circumstances, I grew up witnessing fights and listening to hip hop music, where the theme of a song often talked about getting revenge on a certain individual or group. Tupac Shakur once said “Revenge is like the sweetest joy” and until not too long ago, it was a quote by which I lived by. Much like Hamlet, who got told by his father's ghost to get revenge on his killer and avenge him, I would often times get influenced by my friends or my surroundings to commit some actions that would be undoubtedly deemed as wrong in order to get such revenge. But as I grew older, matured and went through…

Technology is evolving at a rate that has never been experienced before, leading to both excitement and worrying in equal measure. However, it can be said that this pace of technological advancement is affecting societies’ ability to cope with the social and moral implications that come along with it. Furthermore, it begs the question; do these technologies have moral values built into them from the beginning? Do they influence a certain moral perspective on things? In this paper, we will summarize Dutch philosopher Peter-Paul Verbeek’s account of how technologies mediate perception and action, as well as intentionality and freedom, as he discusses in his journal article titled “Moralizing Technology: on the Morality of Technological Artifacts…
