Andrew Leonard’s “Black Friday: Consumerism Minus Civilization” explains how Black Friday has gone too far in American society. He states that the nation has gone mad with Black Friday and companies know that people are so chaotic that they use the craziness as a tactic to lure customers in. Leonard has found videos and commercials online that are created to be crazy. Although Leonard knows Black Friday has unethical qualities, he does remind the reader that it is a huge day for the U.S economy. To him it is a way of getting back at the 1%’ers and capitalism at its finest.…

This fall break was a fall break that was absolutely but on the top of my list for the most memorable breaks that ill never forget and cherish forever in my heart. My 2015 fall break kicked off with the school movie night that happened in a way that I never thought of going down. I was surprised to be the first one there when I’m always late to church. The movie that we watched was “ the Martian “ that was honestly boring and used so many big words that I’ve never heard of or even use myself. While everyone was in the movies enjoying their greasy, salty popcorn, stall candies and there watery drinks I was outside in the cold waiting with my friend carol for her friend who never showed up.…

Reynaldo, I agree with you that there are many different pros and cons to price gouging. It is true that in theory raising the price of necessities such as food, water, and gasoline during a natural disaster could lead to people buying fewer items. However realistically from my personal experiences when a natural disaster takes place people tend to panic and find a way to round up enough money to get double of what they actually might need. On a similar matter, you made an excellent point in your post when you stated that during a natural disaster the demand for items such as food and water increases. I agree with you that the prices does need to increase on these items to help pay for the rushed shipping, so people can receive the supplies…

Americans and others around the world are often struck with what is deemed “shopaholic syndrome.” The symptoms of this are spending preposterous amounts of time and money shopping. To treat this, a Buy Nothing Day was conceived and established in some countries. As the name implies, it is day when people choose to buy nothing to fight against and raise awareness of overconsumption and growing consumerism in our world. There are a myriad of flaws in the logic of the Buy Nothing Day; therefore, the Buy Nothing Day is not the transcendent solution to this problem.…

At times customers make purchases with no conscious planning or prior thought. When this occurs, no time is consumed in making the purchase decision. Impulse buying is termed as emotional buying. A consumer forces to make a sensitive connection with a product based on something he/she is fanatical about, and this connection triggers a purchase called impulse purchase. The mere sight of products, like candy, gum, mints, chips or other things obviously displayed, either in the retail outlet or at the checkout aisles, can trigger impulse shoppers to buy those items that were not there in their shopping list.…
