According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, desire is a “conscious impulse toward something that promises enjoyment or satisfaction in its attainment.” Whether what we want is bad or good, we are constantly attracted to being in a state of satisfaction. There are times where we struggle with making the right moral decisions because we know in the back of our minds that it is wrong. We get a satisfactory sensation when we get our hands on our strongest desire and we much prefer to feel happy rather than neglection. Bryan Spinks mentions this sensation in the perspective of a church.…

Black Friday open on Thanksgiving? Even though people enjoy shopping I think stores should still be closed because the shoppers can't spend time with family and because people can get hurt… Shopping on Thanksgiving can be fun… I guess? After a flourishing era of the 20’s, the Crash of 1929 created devastation within the already fragile financial system until the effects of the dwindling economy instigated the Great Depression. Due to the disillusioned impact of World War I on U.S. economy, the Stock Market’s Black Tuesday brought many Americans during the 1920’s years of worldwide economic and social ruin; as well as the strong negative backlash that eventually caused World War II.…

In response to the massive surplus of babies in the 30s and 40s, the youth flourished in the 1950’s. The age of conformity kicked in as students dressed the same, listened to the same rock-and-roll music and even thought in unison (very few rebellions/war-like events). Along with the growing youth, the American Market expanded throughout the world and placed the U.S. into the highest ranking for the years to come. Consumerism Consumes Us Several different forms of literature, such as novels and movies, can teach audiences about the meaning of life, while giving people ideas about how they should live their life. The movie, Dawn of the Dead, by George A. Romero, and the novel, Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley greatly intertwine to send a strong message about the values of most people in our American society today, and about how this new set of beliefs changed ourselves and our society from the strong one that we once had. Although conforming to society and being materialistic can have positive effects, it consumes people into barely acting human-like.…

Black Friday shopping always seems to me like the worst decision anyone can make. If you’re out shopping and eye the same TV as another person be ready for a fight. Shopping has been a core activity for Americans for as long as the concept of stores existed. Over and over again employees will describe the horrors of retail, and my story is no exception. They will loop around in circles until the store CD rotates and repeats the same song they once walked into.…
