Black Belt Journey

At the age of four I came home from my first Martial Arts class. This marked the beginning of a new journey in my life that would ultimately mold me into the person I am today. This journey would be filled with lessons, hardships, heartaches, joy ,celebrations and it wouldn’t be karate without some blood, sweat and tears.All of those things would ultimately lead me to my final destination : The Black Belt Test. After twelve years of taking Martial Arts classes I can now look back at how much I have learned and grown as a person. Martials Arts has taught me so much more than knowing how to defend myself and keeping active. It has taught me skills such as confidence,respect,teamwork skills, determination and focus ,but most importantly karate taught me to never back down from an obstacle no matter how hard I thought it was going to be. …show more content…
Since I am a girl taking karate, the boys at first didn’t think I would be much competition ,but after a fight with me they quickly learned different , that I wasn’t your typical girl. My Sensei gave me the nickname “nails” because he said I was as tough as a nails.I recall a time where I was sparing another student and he knocked my tooth out. Instead of ending the fight, I went over to my dad and handed him my tooth and went right back into the fight like nothing happened because I wasn’t going to let anything stop me. At the age of ten I had worked my way up the belt ranks and I was eligible to test for my black belt. This is when the first obstacle on the journey to get my black belt happened.The karate school was suddenly closing and I never got the chance to test for my black belt. I was completely devastated because I felt like everything I worked years for had suddenly
