I determined this because it in the article it states that in the late 1970’s, the population of polar bears was 900. Today, this population has increased to 2 100 bears. Compared to other poplar bear populations in Hudson Bay, this population increase was the smallest. One challenge that occurs when counting the polar bear population is that they can range across international boundaries. They also range across hundreds of kilometres over huge chunks of ice and large bodies of freezing water.…

Polar bears are in trouble. They rely on sea ice to catch and eat seals. When a polar bear is hunting they sit and wait for a bit outside the breathing holes seals use. When a seal comes up for air the polar bear swipes at it with its paw, stunning it, grabs it by its neck, and drags it out of the icy waters. A scientist who studies the decline of polar bears said to National Geographic “they are far more successful doing this than any other method of hunting… that's why the melting of the Arctic sea ice threatens polar bear survival.”…

One the Bear, presented by the La Boite Theatre Company and written by Candy Bowers, is a production that aims to explore the themes of identity, friendship, exploitation and cultural appropriation. The production also emphasises the grim reality that is the discrimination and oppression minorities experience, due to the inability of others to accept the differences within these groups of people. Although One the Bear effectively implemented Elements of Drama to communicate an intended dramatic meaning that explores the toxicity of losing yourself and your roots and the journey of finding your pathway home, the production seemingly didn’t incorporate the generic Conventions of Political Theatre as effectively. In the opening scene of the show, audiences are transported to an alternate universe, and introduced to the two main characters, One and Ursula, brown bear best-friends that spend their days avoiding being captured by the Hunters and harvested for their bile.…

The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) are endangered due to accelerated climate warming, which is affecting sea ice thickness which polar bears rely on for finding food and mates (Elvin 2014). An approach to help support polar bear subpopulations is the Large Marine Ecosystem (LME) methodology. This method is used for assessing, monitoring, and managing ecosystems as well as taking into account of human activities; fishing, pollution, ecosystem health, etc (Elvin 2014). There are seventeen arctic LMEs that contain nineteen polar bear subpopulations, of which eight are declining and seven have no data. It is estimated that only one-third of the population will remain by 2050 (Elvin 2014).…
