Black And Decker Essay

Black and Decker has had many products over the years since its first drill and this product is like an addition to the line of drills they already have. Their first drill was introduced in 1916 with only basic features like being electric and its portability. It had the model of a pistol with the grip and the trigger. Sarah Windham, a member of Black and Decker’s media team stated, “this innovation transformed a stationary tool into a portable one and set the cornerstone for today's power tool industry (Windham 3).” From just that first invention the drill has evolved to where it’s at today. I could present a parallel comparison of the new drill compared to its recent generation of products. This evolution includes newer designs, batteries, …show more content…
Other than that main focus, drills have simply lacked innovation. That's why Black and Decker felt a need for a new feature like auto sense in which it actually serves as a purpose for users. To answer to the problem of short battery life, the company has added Lithium-ion battery which has increased life. In terms of voltage, this is important because it could change a drill’s speed and power. “Usually a higher voltage will give a little more instantaneous power as the wires can be a bit smaller and the energy transfer is better (Chien, Loring).” The standard voltage usually ranges from 12 to 18. The new drill is equipped with an incredible 20 volt battery. Even with this high voltage battery, the drill itself is still a lightweight tool.
As time has progressed, more drills have been installed with efficient batteries. The 20V Max auto sense drill has been made for these problems and needs. The previous lines of drills didn’t have 20 volts but there has been models with 18. Some of those recent models even have a speed adjuster with two options. I would consider this to be an innovation rather than a variation of a problem. In the near future I believe there could be more to add to these subset of power tools to meet most of the customer’s
