Bison's Life Narrative

Improved Essays
Did you know bison can grow to 5 or 6 feet tall and can weigh up to 2,500 pounds? They are pretty huge animals, and they look even more ginormous when 5 of them are standing right in front of you. We were in Colorado at the time; enjoying the not unbelievably humid air (unlike Louisiana). We were staying at an RV park right next to an ATV trail; which we planned to ride our ATV on. The day after we got there, I was sitting outside around 4 or 5 PM, being bored, when I decided to ask if I could ride the ATV down the trail a little ways. My dad told me I couldn’t go by myself because of the dangerous wildlife, but I was feeling a little wild and decided to go out for a while anyway.

I was beyond scared; I was paralyzed with fear. And as these huge animals loomed over me all I could think of was that stupid State Farm Commercial where the people’s car got rammed by a bison and I am thinking, “Oh my gosh, I am going to die. I am about to become a grease spot.” And to make it worse it was completely dark and overcast outside and a chilling breeze was blowing and I swear at that moment I thought I smelled a buffalo chicken wrap. At this moment, I decided to turn off the ATV and stay as still as possible. These beasts had stood around me for a couple of minutes now and I was starting to think they were silently discussing the best way to flatten me. Then, suddenly one of them began approaching me. I didn’t know what to do so I decided the only way I was going to survive was to freeze. But the bison didn’t charge me, it began to sniff me, and then lick me. Its breath smelled terrible, but I was so happy I wasn’t dead that I didn’t care. After a minute, I reached out and tried to pet it. To my surprise, the bison let me pet him, and when I stopped he backed up and all five of them began to walk off. Now, at this point I realized I was lucky to be alive as usually bison aren’t so loving and gentle. I decided right then that I need to listen to my parents more, and trust that what they say is only to help

So I went outside to help my grandparents shovel the sidewalk and porch, right in front of us is small pasture for our neighbors, Harmstons, horses to roam. My grandfather started to laugh and told me to look over there and we see a buck and a doe mating inside the pasture while the horses minded their own business. I laughed but I thought it was awkward that the horses didn’t do anything like they usually do. Later that night I was up doing one of your last labs and I heard the coyotes outside.…

Mallory Cattle catastrophes After a whole disastrous string of events containing many visits to the emergency room, an unrepaired broken tooth, life changing tragedy, and many legal issues that prevented me from staying at my own school, I journeyed to a new tiny school in the trash can of Los Angeles called Summit View West. In mid October early in the morning the day was crisp and chill. The sun was just burning the morning fog off of the lakes cool waters. The dew on the grass and trees was glistening from the sunlight and the bird were singing their songs of jubilee . The entire woods were peaceful and still, and the sunrise was magnificent. During this moment I realized how beautiful nature is when the outside world is a distant memory, and all we need to do is take advantage of the little things life gives us and never stress the big ones too much.…

My First Deer One brisk 30 degree day in January, when I was nine years old, was a day for which I was extremely excited. My dad got me out of school earlier that day, so we could go deer hunting. I had already shot a turkey the year before, so guns were nothing new to me. We made a quick stop at my house so that we could pick up the .243 youth edition, a really short barreled .243, that my dad had bought just about a month before so that we could go hunting, and I would actually be able to handle the gun. At this point we did not have the hunting land that we do today, so we went to my grandpa’s house and hunted in the clearing of trees behind his house.…
