Thousands of Bishop Eddie L. Long’s followers gathered at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church on Wednesday to bid their spiritual leader farewell.
On Jan. 15, New Birth released a statement confirming the death of Bishop Long after losing to “a gallant private fight with an aggressive form of cancer.” He was last seen in public in a Twitter photo showing him with a bald head where there used to be thick hair, NPR reports.
Three months ago, Bishop Long revealed that he was going through a “health challenge” which he said was not related to his new raw vegan diet. The controversial megachurch leader, who was sued by four male church members in 2010 for sexual misconduct, said he had faith that God would deliver him from that trial.

Former Gov.Roy Barnes described Bishop Long as a “force of nature” who served as his trusted friend and confidant. Deion Sanders also spoke up and said his deceased friend taught him how to be a man and how New Birth should “get ready for the new birth” even though no one could ever replace
