Discuss birth order
Tasha and Sebastian are polar opposites in regards to birth order. Tasha is the oldest of three siblings while Sebastian is the youngest of three siblings. Tasha has one sister (age 30) and one brother (age 27). Sebastian has two brothers ages 26 and 29. Both Tasha and Sebastian play the typical role of their birth order. That is, being the oldest child usually carries with it more responsibilities as a whole and you will generally see them acting accordingly. Tasha exhibits the strong leadership characteristics and the ability to assert herself that are associated with being first in the birth order. Tasha utilized the “I” pronoun more often while Sebastian utilized the “you” pronoun which speaks to how each individual owns and takes responsibility of situations. Interestingly enough, their desire for counseling is primarily Sebastian’s idea because it is he who wants to come public with their relationship while Tasha has her reservations. However, during the course of the sessions Sebastian seemed tense, agitated, and withdrawn. As far as proximity is concerned, they neither sat close together nor far apart, but there did seem to be an invisible barrier between them that kept them separated.
Analyze your findings using structural, strategic and intergenerational theories. Currently, the client with the higher level of differentiation of self is Tasha with Sebastian desperately seeking a role that he may not be able to fulfill at this time. An enmeshment exists between Tasha and her children and disengagement between Sebastian and Tasha. I believe this to be a defense mechanism on Tasha’s part to protect her children from any emotional hurt that may arise from the blending of the family. With active participation and perseverance I believe the clients can overcome their differences.

For the first I will have each client set a goal for themselves as well as for their partner with accompanying steps on how to achieve the goals. They are to scale the goals (1 – 10) on how close they are to achieving their chosen goals. For the second, each client is to use active listening, “I” statements whenever and as much as possible, and work on communicating logically and rationally. They are to keep a separate skills diary that identifies the date, time, whether they were listening or speaking, and the outcome of the interaction. For the third assignment, each client is to list three areas where trust is important to them and on a scale of 1- 10, where 1 represents ‘Not a lot’ and 10 represents ‘A great deal’, rate how much trust exists in each respective
