Next, it is better to be safe and give children birth control that will help them a lot more than not giving them anything and them hurting themselves. If teenagers are only allowed to have a parent with them when getting contraceptives there is going to be a concerning increase in health, as well as kids. (American Civil).For example, a teenager could have unprotected sex once and get pregnant all because they were not allowed to get condoms or birth control. Specifically, if teens are not entitled to be in the office without parent consent that would just make them not even want to come at all. It could hurt them drastically when it came to having to get a screening, check up, testing, or anything.(American Civil ).Teens should not have to even be in the situation to be too scared to go to a doctor's office because of getting caught. For example, according to an article called Journal of the American Medical Association, about one and five girls whose parents are informed if asked to use birth control would not. (Nardo). In fact, if parent consent had to be required teens would not even bother because they would not want to risk getting in trouble, and most likely use condoms which are not as secure as birth control. Plus, girls who live with their mothers are more probable to ask and tell their parents they want to take birth control than girls who live with a male figure (Nardo). Most girls would not feel as comfortable talking to a man about certain things as they would a woman who has been through the same problems they face. A male figure would not relate as well as a female and would not understand how they feel in certain situations, like getting birth control. Some would not see it as them trying to be safe some females would not quite understand, but more women are more likely to relate than a male. Another example, according to surveys minors wait about 18 months to access family planning services after having sexual interactions. It is more than likely that if parental consent might be required that it would just increase the amount of time even more that it takes to access family planning services. (Espejo).
