Birth Control Observation Report

My observation of this issue if from personal experience. When I was fifteen-years-old I wanted to go on the pill. I had many reasons to want to make this decision and I was very aware of the consequences and side effects that birth control can have. At the time, my friends and the internet make this task seem like a very simple one in Ontario. My first step was to talk to my mom about my decision, many people frown about the idea of their ‘young’ child having sex, and in fact get mad. This can lead to complications where young women feel inferior and anxious about making decision about their own bodies. I started to ask my friends about how their experiences were getting on birth control and some had good experiences but many of the girls felt that they were not comfortable enough in telling their parents that they wanted to go on it, and if they did, the doctors made them feel uncomfortable as well. Our perspective on health and wellness is that if you need something or want to make a decision for your own body you should be able to do that, hassle free. Many women have had negative experiences with the health care system when doctors do not consider the patient’s thoughts and opinions. A health care system should be a hassle free institution where patients can obtain any source of birth control they wish to have. Ontario tries very hard to portray the health care system as a judgment free one, but there are still many doctors who are employed who believe in a patriarchal lifestyle.
