Many people were mad about the KKK being involved in this protest because of what beliefs the KKK had. The SCLC sit-ins were a big event that caused all of the following events because the sit-ins had mixed responses and the people who disagreed made it known. In this event MLK was arrested and sent to Birmingham jail and while he was there he wrote, “A letter from Birmingham jail.” This letter talks about how the strategy of nonviolent resistance to racism is the best option they had to ending all the racism that they were involved in around the country. The KKK bombed a church early in the morning which killed 4 women and along with that they went straight to a motel and bombed it because MLK once stayed there and he was African American which is who the KKK didn’t like. This event was not a success because they did not achieve anything they just bombed a couple places up because they didn’t like them. What happened during this event is a complete 180 degree turn compared to the Birmingham protest because it is peaceful, no deaths and it was also very organized. This march was very similar to the selma march because both of these were nonviolent and were meant to try and draw support for their cause. This event drew out a whopping 250,000 people to watch MLK deliver his speech compared to the couple thousand who showed up at the selma march and A lot of people spoke throughout the day and it was all a lead up to MLK’s “I have a dream speech,” which would become one of the most well known and influential speeches ever. Most of these speakers were influential people who were trying to convince the people that they needed to make a change. The effect that the March on Washington had on the civil right movement was that this march revived the fighting spirit of the people standing up for what they believe in. This march occurred because many African American groups and organizations wanted freedom from segregation and jobs considering the unemployment rate for African Americans was so high. This was a very successful march because of the influence he speakers had on the people and it was also very successful because of the very well known and historical speech given by Martin Luther King
