Birdella
Once upon a time there was a bird named Birdella. She lived in her father’s big mansion made of twigs and leaves. She lived with her new stepmother and two stepsisters. Her stepsisters were very mean to her and made her do their dirty work for them. Her stepmother was even worse. She ordered Birdella to fetch things for her and clean around the house. “Do this for me. Do that for me. Wash this. Clean this.” Her sisters never did anything around the house. The stepsisters just watched Birdella and called her names.

The prince was holding the anklet, Birdella had taken off her ankle, to admire it. Then the clock started chiming to indicate that it was midnight. Birdella realized it was time to go. She quickly said goodbye to the prince then ran off. She ran in such a hurry that she forgot her anklet. “Wait!” the prince yelled. “I didn’t even get your name!” Then the prince realized he was still holding her anklet.
The next day the prince decided that the girl he met at the ball was the one he was going to marry. The prince still had the anklet of Birdella. He was going to go to every nest in Birdtown and try the anklet on all the female birds. If the anklet fit the girl, the prince would marry her.
The prince had been through all the nests in the village. He came to Birdella nest, the last nest. Birdella was in her room because her stepmother told her to stay there. Both stepsisters tried on the shoe. For one stepsister, the anklet was too small. For the other stepsister, the anklet was too big. “Are there any other female birds in this nest?” the messenger asked.
“Nope, no other females.” Birdella’s stepmother said. Right then Birdella walked out of her room.
“What are you doing out of your room?” Birdella’s stepmother said sternly. “I thought I told you to stay there.”
