Similarities: Depression and bipolar disorder are both mood disorders that include severe sadness that inhibits daily functioning. This intense sadness can manifest as feelings of hopelessness. A person may recognize a cognitive change, for example, having pessimistic or guilty thoughts. Often people who are experiencing bouts of sadness notice that they may be ruminating over distressing events. Behavioral changes may include feeling withdrawn, low motivation for things previously enjoyed. A person most likely will notice physiological symptoms such as early morning waking, appetite changes, and decreased libido.

However, I do not believe it is a selfish act. I think that people who behave in that way truly believe they have no other choice. With a lot of practice, that thought can become reality very easily. With that being said, I do believe that there are some people who should have a right to do as they please with their life.
