Bipolar is a mood disorder that can take the shape of either someone that is overly happy and excited and has all the energy in the world to the complete opposite. Someone that is experiencing the depressive side of this disorder will look like someone that has no energy whatsoever and wants to be left alone and does not want to do anything. This does not mean that this person necessarily hates the world. Their brain is just not wired correctly and things are not processed as they should be all the time. Most people that get diagnosed are no older than 25, since the onset of this disorder does appear around the ages of 15 to 24 (WebMD, 2015). For this reason I can interpret that this is why some parents might believe that their child is acting out, since this does appear during the teen years, why young adult do tend to rebel more often. Being diagnosed with this does scare some people, but it is better to just take care of it as soon as it is diagnosed. It is not going to go away on its own. Even though it might seem as though the individual is going through this all alone there are a lot of other individual’s hat are going through this and can comprehend what is going on in their mind. Sloan Manning, MD wrote an article in the Supplement to The Journal of Family Practice where is states that bipolar is linked to many other conditions. People that suffer from bipolar most likely have some other condition that can be liked together. The life style that someone carries can have an impact on them. So it is best to be aware of your surroundings and what is best for each person. Several lifestyle behaviors and risk factors, including sedentary life style(being inactive or seated) , tobacco smoking, and obesity, are recognized as being significantly influential in bipolar symptom progression and functional impairment (J. Sloan Manning, MD, 20145). Certain behaviors that someone does can lead them to have early sign of bipolar without the individual even knowing that they are putting themselves in this situation. If you have a child that is obese and all they do is sit around and eat and play video games, those can be early signs that they need to do something proactive with the situation. By letting these activities continue, you are allowing for this to turn in to a more serious condition. Bipolar and other such medical conditions run hand in hand and by letting one end of the stick get worse you are making the whole situation worse. Certain conditions and disorders can be controlled in order to help prevent it from becoming a more dangerous one.
