THEORIES OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT IN INFANTS
INTRODUCTION
Cognitive development refers to how a person perceives, thinks, and gains understanding of his or her world through the interaction of genetic and learned factors. It includes remembering, problem solving, and decision-making, from infancy to adulthood. (Escolano-Pérez & Sastre-Riba, 2010) I’m going to focus in on the cognitive development that happens throughout infancy, but first I want to talk about the biopsychosocial framework and how it plays a role in cognitive development.
THE BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL FRAMEWORK The idea is that no one thing affects the way we develop but it’s a series of these events interacting with in each other that results in human development. A way to organize the

Prenatal development, brain maturation, puberty, and menopause are all examples of biological forces. Our lifestyle choices can also have an effect, for example diet and exercise. (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2012)
PSYCHOLOGICAL FORCES Includes all internal perceptual, cognitive, emotional, and personality factors that affect development. These are the factors that influence our behavior. How you describe yourself to others whether you are nice, intelligent or honest are all examples of psychological forces. This force usually gets the most attention because it can control self-esteem which affects the beliefs people have about their abilities and in return what they can do. (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2012)
SOCIOCULTURAL FORCES Includes interpersonal, cultural, and ethnic factors that affect development. This has to do with how people and their environments interact and relate to each other. This includes all the people in one’s life: parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and teachers. Everyone we meet plays a role in the way we interact. Many different cultures also have different customs that play a role in development.

    Panic disorder is an anxiety disorder which may be diagnosed from recurrent unexpected panic attacks or at least one attack followed by a period of fear about additional panic attacks.     Historically literature based around alcohol abuse was informed as a male disorder; as such treatment for addiction was tailored towards men’s recovery (Walde, Urgenson, Weltz & Hanna, 2002).
