The Biomedical approach, due to being singularly focused, diminished diseases like pneumonia and tuberculosis. The biological causes of these diseases are well studied, treatments and vaccines established to prevent the onset, and the life expectancy in the U.S. has increased (Johnson, 2012). But, the Biological approach only treated the body and left out other health determinants. The Biopsychological approach integrates the mind into the health equation, looking at wellness, prevention, and a broader range of treatment options, including behavioral and environmental. The Biomedical approach focuses on a single biological event, while the Biopsychosocial approach looks across the disease and health of the patient. Without the Biomedical model, we would still be fighting today’s common diseases, but now we look beyond the basic biological condition of the patient, and assist in prevention of the death-causing chronic diseases of today. Both models deal with aspects of health, the Biomedical approach laid the ground work for disease prevention and the Biopsychological approach helps keep us on track for a longer, healthier
