In the excerpt “the Four Books on Architecture” Palladio develops a numerical and logical system organizing spatial relationships among the elements involved in any building. This system is a guidance for architects when designing such buildings as villas and houses. As well this system includes detailed rules to be considered when an architect arranges building rooms, when he specifies the proportions of spaces, when he makes decisions about the dimensions of halls associating the height of a space with its dimensions and when he specifies the sizes of doors and windows for a room. Also, he sheds light on differences between simple spaces and elegant spaces and criteria to be considered when an architect makes decisions about whether spaces…

During the 1880s United States architecture was customary to be built of the current style and theme. Today’s architecture is more constructed of what is individual and authentic. In architecture and civil engineering, sustainability plays a main role. All buildings and any construction could be potentially dangerous if they were built or designed in an inappropriate way. All structures and designs have to be safe and stable to prevent the fatal catastrophe of failing construction. The construction of any large objects, such as shopping centers, cathedrals, bridges, and other usually takes a lot of time.…

The Earth is currently undergoing environmental problems. The existence of these environmental problems is represented by three factors: increase of population due to the rise of economic activities, decrease of the Earth’s resources, and the destruction of nature. Because of these, architects are searching for sustainable approaches and are promoting sustainable architecture. In the modern day, several infrastructures around the globe are based on. This book discusses the relation and importance of using cognitive science data in architecture and urban planning. Humans are evolved from mammals with their perceptual system as a product of natural selection as mentioned by Charles Darwin in his book Origin of Species by means of natural selection in 1859. It can be seen in the ways human function, including how we walk, think, see and prioritize viewing things in our environment. It also focuses on the conscious and subconscious tendencies and behaviors that govern our responses to built environments.…

Buildings, both old and new serve a purpose in an enviroment. Old buildings are very important due their historical significance and they as a tangible connection to past, while newer buildings help to make an area seem more contemporary and progressive. It is therefore important that both these types of buildings are present in a space, however older structures must only remain when they are still safe to be inhabited and bring value that general vicinity. In many of the world's great cities, older buildings are very prominent and in many cases act as popular tourist attractions.…

It creates a healthy environment for the growth of new dialogue between architecture and nature. This phase also questions the role of the architect in this new ontology. Here the architect is also brought down from its high stature of the creator to an equal contributor, thereby creating renewed interest in the interactions of these objects. It is still ambiguous about how these interactions, create something more than the empirical summation of the…

Queen's house, designed by architect Inigo Jones was the first pure classical building in Britain and brought a revolution into the architectural scene. Inigo Jones was inspired by his travels in Italy and especially his second visit in 1613 where he visited major cities and buildings and compared theory with practice, from then on his style of architecture took a new form. I want to explore the originality of Queen's house, how much of the design came from Inigo Jones the architect and how much came from Inigo Jones the posthumous sponsor of Palladianism, as he is often referred to. Andrea Palladio is often seen as the main inspiration to building Queen's house and Jones took his treaties 'I quattro libri dell'architettura' as an architectural…

Over 6 billion global human population requires a bigger residential space, however this request will ineluctably decrease the space of natural resources. Moreover, starting from the late 1950s, with Rachel Carson published her book Silent Spring, people started pay attention to the pollution of synthetic particles as to all the environmental problems caused by the civilization process. As kuhn states, awareness is prerequisite to all acceptable changes of theory. Plus with urban system getting bigger and more integrated, demands for natural resources have dramatically increased and will surely continue to increase. Human released the importance of landscape design which is promoting several new paradigm shifts on the modern landscape design to interact with natural resources and teach human how to use the resources…

In the late 19th century, another famous American architect — Franck Lloyd Wright, who was an employee of Sullivan’s studio, inherited Sullivan’s idea about relationship between form and function. Wright thinks that architecture should be loyal to not only structure and purpose of itself, but also time, site, and the environment. Based on the idea of organic architecture, combining his practice in “Prairie Style,” Wright had further developed Sullivan’s idea forward it to a more throughout theory of “organic architecture.” In the article “ In the Cause of Architecture” in 1908, Wright wrote, “A sense of the organic is indispensable to an architect; where can he develop it so surely as in this school? A knowledge of the relations of form and…

Ecological design is a major part of our coming future and is necessary for the prosperity of our species as caretakers for the world. Sim Van Der Ryn and Stuart Cowan, in their book Ecological Design, address five principles in design that will help to move society in the right direction. These principles are: solutions from your place, ecological accounting, designing with nature, everyone is a designer, and making nature visible. It has been over the course of the last century that building designers and engineers have neglected the entirety of environmental impacts that went into their buildings. They have built, I believe, from a strictly human perspective with regard only to what the majority wants.…
