Finger Knuckle recognition system and finger back surface is one of the recent biometric methods used to identify people. The finger knuckle print is highly rich in textures and can be used to uniquely identify a person. In this paper we propose figure knuckle based biometric person identification using subspace methods such as Gabor filter, PCA and LDA. These methods need two images: test image and train image. Firstly, crop the test image and train image. The cropped images are changed to black and white image, then preprocessing with gabor filter to enhance the FKP image. After using gabor filter, feature extraction is employed by using PCA. The features of test image and train image are compared by using LDA. Then the output will be displayed

This system uses palmprints to identify individuals when there are not traces of fingerprints or other biometric identifications available. The ridges and grooves of the palms are placed into a computer that stores the images of the prints so that they can be used in later cases. Although fingerprinting is the most basic way to use biometric data to identify people palmprints are coming into use as of recent times because of traces left as evidence. While fingerprints are smaller and easier to trace due to the ridge patterns, palmprints are needed more because evidence at crime scenes have more palmprints left than accurate fingerprints. Due to this growing of palmprint identification the Next Generation Identification System has added it to be a subtopic inside of it (Jain, Nandakumar, and Ross 4).…

While deciding the wellspring of an inactive unique finger impression, finger impression inspectors utilize the ACE-V strategy, which separates into four classes; examination, correlation, assessment, and confirmation. Amid investigation, the primary objective is to figure out if a unique finger impression is appropriate for correlation. The nature of print and amount of components inside in the print are taken into inquiry. The analyst will begin recognizing class and individual qualities; class attributes slender down the print to a gathering of potential outcomes yet not to a careful person. There are three diverse kind of class sorts; curves circles, whorls.…

One of the advances in fingerprint evidence since Dr. King’s murder has been further study of the ridge comparisons (Saferstein, 2015). A person’s full fingerprint averages 150 ridge characteristics providing plenty of comparison for an identity match (Saferstein, 2015). There have been arguments made that prints collected at a crime scene are not complete, full prints and that could subject the comparison to be invalid because an incomplete fingerprint may only allow for a very limited number of ridge comparison (Saferstein, 2015). In 1973, the International Association of Identification conducted an extensive study, which dispelled any theory that limited ridge comparisons could not identify a person successfully (Saferstein, 2015). In…

Photographic identification is more common than lineups and show-ups; however, judges have expressed their fear that the absence of the requirement of counsel at photographic identification "confrontations" might encourage police to abuse the identification process. (Wasberg, 2009) A “photo array” is a head-and-shoulders (mug shot) of the suspect and other mug shot pictures of people of similar age, race, and description, which a witness or victim attempts to pick the perpetrator. (Wasberg, 2009) A suspect is not present during a photo identification, only the witnesses and the police investigator are present. Therefore, photo identifications are not considered to be a “critical stage” of prosecution; considering, there is no Sixth Amendment…

After selecting different ranges of feature vectors for svm analysis, the best training and test accuracy was found when svm was trained on the first 6 features, i.e the first 6 columns with highest eigenvalues. In creating these programs, the NIJ uses a comprehensive process to make valid technology programs for the criminal justice system. This process uses the research, development, testing, and evaluation approach to “ensure that the NIJ’s research portfolios are aligned to the best technology needs of the criminal justice community,” (Justice, 2009). For example, the NIJ formed a working group to study some of the disadvantages of the praised specialized database, the AFIS. The Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) is a specialized database that is designed to match known and unknown fingerprints with intentions on connecting a suspect to a pending crime or to an unsolved crime. Ridgeology, Edgeoscopy, and Poroscopy After more than thirty years of law enforcement service with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, David R. Ashbaugh focused his research and expertise on the science of ridgeology (Encyclopedia.com, 2005). Ridgeology refers to the method of evaluating friction ridge skin, as a means of identification, based on scientific principals and procedures. Ridgeology differs from Dactyloscopy as it is the forensic examination of all friction ridge skin, or volar pads, and is not limited to just ridges of the finger tips. Because of ridgeology, forensic identification has become more dynamic as scientists are acknowledging friction ridge skin on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and toes is just as telling as the uniqueness of fingerprints from person to person.…

Identity is defined as “the qualities, beliefs, etc., that make a particular person or group different from others” (Merriam-Webster). Knowing someone’s identity tells you what decisions they will make, but not what their identity will be in the future. The following quote exemplifies the changing of identity over time, “We know what we are, but know not what we may be” (Shakespeare). A person’s identity gives them the ability to respond to situations in the present, but not in the future under different circumstances.…
