Chapter 12 is a recent topic that we’ve covered, which I feel relates to me at this point in my life. Biomedical therapy treats the symptoms of psychological disorders with medication, while psychotherapy treats behavioral, emotional, and interpersonal problems using psychological techniques. Likewise, I learned the difference between psychologists and psychiatrists. It's more than just one being able to prescribe medications while the other cannot, there’s a primary difference between the two. Psychiatrists have gone to medical school therefore they have medical orientation, making them able to prescribe medications to clients, while psychologists are trained as a researcher as well as partake in some clinical works, but not to the point where they can prescribe medicine. In addition, this information will be beneficial in the future since someday I want to become a counseling psychologist, but I don’t want to do the research aspect of psychology that psychologists would generally have, which I know now is not a requirement if I’m going to be a counseling psychologist. Reasons being that counseling psychologists tend to focus on less severe symptoms that individuals have like coping with stressors and adjusting to the changes in their life, which I can handle because it’s something that I’m used to
