The human body is a world in itself; from volunteering in a care home, I have been given the insight into the deteriorating health of elderly patients. Despite seeing the reality of geriatric healthcare, my confidence has grown and I have developed a greater understanding of illnesses and the consequences of physical and mental deterioration. Alongside this, studying maths has taught me problem solving. My interest in immunology and pathology is very thought-provoking, having participated in the Imperial science competition; researching about Malaria. This inspired me to read articles and various books, such as Hot Zone by R. Preston, which is from the perspective of a microbiologist dealing with level four disease depicts the high standard of scientific skills required. On the other hand, Elephants on Acids by A. Boese, depicts the extent to which scientists and health services will go for research, with motivation and
