Biomedical Engineering Personal Statement

Improved Essays
I’m highly motivated to study biomedical engineering with Ryerson. I have a strong technical aptitude and my own personal health challenges driving me. I originally went to school to become a pilot. I was successful, earned a 3.94 GPA then started my career at a small airline in northern Manitoba. A couple years into the career I became unable to hold a pilot’s medical certificate. A lot of pilots mentally hold a backup for such a scenario. For me; that has always been engineering. Pilots train on their aircraft's inner workings. We understand every electrical, mechanical and hydraulic system for safety. I learned detailed information about how each system and instrument works on several aircraft. I enjoyed and excelled at that side of the …show more content…
I would also be a contributing member of your community. I see myself involved with student groups related to my hobbies. I also have a strong interest in any extracurricular engineering projects.
I’m a mature student, I’ve been in the working world for some time. I understand what my goal is, the importance of hard work and its correlation with success. I’m not going to school just to get a degree. I’m building the foundation for future study and a career that will make Ryerson proud.
I'm attracted to Ryerson for a couple of reasons. You have a dedicated undergraduate biomedical engineering program. It’s an important field and I like the focus on biomedical from the beginning. Some other schools only see biomedical engineering as a postgraduate focus. Others have added a few courses to another engineering program. Then repackaged it as biomedical. Ryerson is one of Canada’s top universities. A place I can take pride in attending. It's a great place to start taking steps towards my goal of making a positive impact on the world. It’s also worth mentioning that study at Ryerson would keep me close to home in the Toronto area. I wouldn’t have to move and my wife could keep her great job. That only serves as another indicator of my

My education has been an important aspect of the person which I am. When I was young my family moved a lot, from house to house. I am always looking for unexpected; and biomedical engineering does with the application of engineering principles to medicine to resolve patient-life inconveniences. The first thought of doing biomedical engineering was inspired by a phenomenon of a blind man crossing road with a walking stick, finding his ways in a crowd. His aspiration to see again intrigues me to think would sightless people restore vision one day or live in dark forever. Yet, with the intelligent invention of bionic eyes in recent years, I was convinced. A further study on bionic eyes mechanism gave me a full comprehension on how electrically stimulating the retina in responding to visual input.…

In my summer job as a camp counselor, I worked with a camper, Morgan, who first illustrated to me the potential life-changing impact of biomedical engineering. Morgan had suffered a serious accident and lost both her left arm and leg. This potentially debilitating event seemed but a small inconvenience to her, as a complex prosthetic leg allowed her to play handball, hike through the woods, and ride in a canoe with the effortlessness and poise found in any confident young girl. This experience sparked my interest in biomedical engineering, as I saw how I could use the combination of medicine and engineering to make a difference in someone else’s life. I intend to pursue a biomedical imaging and instrumentation focus within my major…

Discipline is an intellectual virtue that drives me to improve myself every day. My discipline is composed of parts work ethic, determination, and foresight. My discipline was created within me for several reasons, my grandfather’s death, the work ethic gifted to me from my father and football, and an unwavering will to make a difference within the world. The reason I will help people was made when I lost my innocence. My family had to take care of my grandmother who was dying of ovarian cancer.…

Having deep curiosities towards biomedical fields, I have been interested in learning knowledge regarding medical-biology, such as reading scientific magazines, and discussing the new findings with students and professors. Other than obtaining pure information, I think the most essential part that every biomedical researcher should have is the ability to conduct experiments and researches dexterously. Thus, I’m interested in UTP at Loma Linda University because this program can not only reinforce my research ability and enrich my research experience as a whole, but also gives me an overview of what is the status quo of some health disparity issues. Given with the opportunity to conduct biomedical researches in an advanced research lab, I will be able to cultivate and enhance my research skills through frequent contacts with the research instruments.…
