I am a senior at Wichita State University studying Biomedical Engineering. I expect to graduate in May of 2018 with magna cum laude distinction. As an undergraduate, I have the opportunity to tutor underclassmen in physics. Eventually, I became an undergraduate teaching assistant as well. Both of these made me realize how much I enjoy helping students learn, which made me think about pursuing graduate education to become a college professor. Assisting in a biomechanics lab made it clear that it was something I wanted to pursue. My goal is to enter the accelerated master’s program in biomedical engineering at Wichita State University this spring.
As a high school student, I took every math and science course I could, because I enjoyed those topics. I had an opportunity to shadow in a medical lab as part of an internship experience. I enjoyed medicine, but medical lab science was not for me. It was almost completely automated with machines and monotonous. During my first semester at Wichita State University, I …show more content…
As an active member of the University of Wichita chapter of the Society of Physics Students, I help with physics demonstration events and attend scholarly talks on modern physics topics. During my time as a biomedical engineering major at Wichita State University, I’ve shadowed at Via Christi Sports Medicine and Peeples Prosthetics and Orthotics. I was also given the opportunity to work with the Girl Scouts and help design a technical sign for their new camp Starwoods explaining the physics behind a rock climbing wall, belay wall, and zip line. I have been a physics tutor for three semesters and an undergraduate teaching assistant for one semester. My duties as a tutor include helping the students with concepts and problem-solving. As a teaching assistant, I grade in addition to those
