Then I became enlightened by the biomedical sciences during the biochemistry unit in my 9th grade biology class. One day a would-be 30-minute tutorial turned into a three-hour lesson. I asked every question in my arsenal: How can gene targeting help prevent disease? What are genetic markers and what can they tell us about human development? The list went on endlessly until finally my teacher could no longer answer my questions. I went home that day with a peaked curiosity and an unsatisfied mind. I had to know more. Since then, I can find myself at any given time reading for hours about the newest biomedical discoveries that impact our world today. Studies about how the body’s own natural regenerative properties can be re-engineered to expedite healing or how the usage of engineered nucleases (man-made parts of the human genome) can be used

I want to research and create new vaccinations and medications, bringing hope to families affected by diseases. I’m excited at the possibility of having a job that will challenge me intellectually and allow me to use my talents, to better my global
