Engineering a Career for Life (Rough Draft)
With technology constantly advancing in the healthcare industry, many jobs have been created to continue these advancements. One of which is the job of a biomedical engineer. Through the combination of engineering with medical and biological sciences, biomedical engineers can make major advances in healthcare technology. While it requires a lot of advanced mathematics, being a biomedical engineer would be a good career for the future that I would be interested in because of its growth in the future, involvement with all the skills I have, and it pays well.

“Biomedical engineers typically need a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering or bioengineering from an accredited program in order to enter the occupation. Alternatively, they can get a bachelor’s degree in a different field of engineering and then either choose biological science electives or get a graduate degree in biomedical engineering” (“How to Become One”). The minimum of a bachelor’s degree would allow me to contribute to research and other types of engineering as well.

But this job is not easily acquired; programs and internships also take part in education. Full time and additional hours are shown to be very common. “Biomedical engineers usually work full time on a normal schedule. However, as with employees in almost any engineering occupation, biomedical engineers occasionally may have to work additional hours to meet project deadlines” (“Pay”). But with these hours, it is expected for any engineering job as engineers usually work around the clock. “Biomedical engineers usually work full time on a normal schedule. However, as with employees in almost any engineering occupation, biomedical engineers occasionally may have to work additional hours to meet the needs of patients, managers, colleagues, and clients” (“Work Environment”). Though it is a lot of hours, the average salary of $86,220 is what makes it worthwhile. The possibility of growth in this career is very likely as well. “Biomedical engineers typically receive greater responsibility through experience and more education” (“How to Become One”). Through continuing my education in various fields of engineering or degrees and through experience of working in a variety of situations, the growth in this sector can help to achieve a higher position or an extended version of this job as well.
