Biological Science Career Progression

I am a 21-year-old graduating senior, majoring in General Science. I chose to change my major from Biological Sciences to General Science because it better suited the time frame of when I wanted to graduate. Upon graduation, I plan to pursue a graduate degree in a field other than Geology. Then, I plan to further my education and pursue a degree in the Master of Occupational Therapy. Occupational Therapy school requires a lot of biology courses, which explains why I chose Biological Sciences as my major primarily. General Science was a better fit because it offers the option of having 30 hours of one science, and it introduced me to a variety of other science courses. In my case, my 30 hours of one science consisted of biology courses. Furthermore,

My choice to have biochemistry as my major was the most logical, because for all of my life I have been interested in what life is composed of. I looked at the incredible things that people and animals do and I found that all the intricate working of biology and chemistry that made all of their actions possible, only added to the awesomeness of it all. Another important factor in my life that started my interest into the science of biology was my mother, who has a genetic anemia called Fanconi Anemia. She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies.…

I finished High School and my Associate Degree almost at the same time. Almost immediately I enrolled in the Biology B.A program at St Thomas University. Regrettably, because of my work load I was not able to keep up with the studying, so I decided to change majors into business, although I did finish with a minor in biological sciences. I graduated from St Thomas University, but I was not satisfied. I had always wanted to get into the health field, so I decided to continue my education with a degree in…

I’ve always loved the sound of rain. Its soft patter against my window releases me from the stresses of college applications, if only for a moment. Then, as quickly as it came, the rain stops its descent upon my window and retreats; growing up in Central Florida, I have been well accustomed to erratic weather patterns such as the rain coming and going in a moment’s notice. Florida’s weather has taught me a valuable lesson over the years: life can be as unpredictable as the weather.…

Alternate Major A general curiosity of numerical calculations in the existence of matter is the major root-cause for majoring in Chemistry. In essence, a lack thereof of such curiosity fuels the desire to transition from Chemistry to another science-related fields. One popular change is from Chemistry to Biology. I personally think that changing my major to Biology will be the easy route to take because the comparison between the two illustrates a rather compelling idea of 39 credits to obtain a Bachelors in Science in Biology, as compared to the 48 credits required for a Bachelors in Chemistry.…

What initially stimulated my interest in the field of dental hygiene was doing a research project on the occupation of a dental hygienist while I was in high school. From doing the project, I learned the tasks, years of education, hours, and salary of a dental hygienist which further intrigued my interest in the field. When I was younger, I had braces and learned that I would need jaw surgery, which made me more curious about the dental field. The more research and experiences I encountered in this field, the more I knew I wanted to be a dental hygienist. My desire to be a dental hygienist has increased as I’ve participated with professionals and observed a broad range of procedures.…

When deciding which HTC program, I always knew I want to go into some type of science. Although there is only one science program, I chose Biological Sciences for two major reasons: the love of science and the preparation for veterinarian school. Science has always been my favorite subject in school because what I learned in the classroom I could use outside the classroom. It was not something that I would never use once the test was over, it was ideas and skills that would help me see more detail in the world around me. For example, from my biology and chemistry classes, I've taken lab inquiry and procedure skills to solve several problems I've come across both at home and work.…

I would like to attend the Wake STEM Early College High School because the work that I am doing now, I feel is way too easy and tend to get bored because of the repetitiveness of what we are learning. Some sort of challenge or obstacle is needed for me to get really engaged in the activity received. I currently show maturity and willingness to work, by completing work and trying to get it done and have it acceptable for review. In doing so, I check my work before I turn it in to make sure it makes sense and is precise. I am enthusiastic about learning, the only problem is that when we go over something over and over, it gets repetitive.…
