J.M Darhower once said: “Go for it, while you can. I know you have it in you. And I can't promise you'll get everything you want, but I can promise nothing will change if you don't try.” This is a quote that I’ve been living for since I was 13, the age at which I made my very first step to high school. I was born in Viet Nam seventeen years ago. My country is fairly impoverished compares to America and so is my family. Due to the poverty, I was raised in a substandard community, which allowed me to witness a number of transgressions and crimes during my childhood. Part of my choice was affected by J.M Darhower’s line. And believe me, it was the best choice I’ve ever made; America’s intensely changed my life. From that point on, I use her quote as a motivation for me to live. I became brave enough to take the risks and challenges in everything I do, because if I don’t try, I would never know how far could I go and achieve.
More than a year after our moving, my first brother dropped out of college and went back to Vietnam. A couple of months later, my second brother dropped out of school and being unemployed. Tears have fallen on my parents’ faces every day during that time. They cried and had those sleepless nights because of disappointment. In order to make it happen for us to start our new lives in the States, they’d been running around in town to take care of the money issue just to have enough budget for the family to cover the first period of time in this expensive country. That led them to be in a huge debt (to our family, it is huge). My mom is the only one who works to support the family. Thus, it’s truly difficult for her to pay off the debt; she can only pay the interest for each month because that is all she can afford. Misery comes after misery, now they have to face with the fact that both of their sons just wasted all of their hard-working efforts and became unsuccessful like that. This incident is what made me try to study even harder with a passion of going to college more than ever. All because
