Her family was anti slavery and from the time she was young she knew that she was destined to make a change. As she became older and started to realize the inequality between men and women she started her fight. Susan said “The older I get the greater power I seem to have to help the world. I am like a snowball the farther I roll the more I gain” When she first started her work to make a change in America for women she became the President of the Daughters of Temperance, which was a group of women who campaigned more liquor laws. She had been denied speaking at conventions because that was a “mans job.” (Biography; Brainy; House; Youtube) Susan gave her first speech at the National Women’s Right Convention in September 1852. Elizabeth Stanton and Susan B. Anthony were two good friends who worked together for the rights of woman. The two ladies formed the National Women's Loyal League to abolish slavery. These two, especially Anthony, were unafraid to say what was needed to make the change. Anthony never gave up and is a prime example of a prominent activist. She was an extremely strong and passionate in what she believed and the work she put into it. She made women feel that they were more than just there to have children and make sure the house was clean. Many people wouldn’t have the courage that this lady had especially to go up and stand up in front of congress, not once but over and over again. Without her and her followers woman today might not have the rights that we do. Susan B. Anthony passed away on March 13th, 1906 and it wasn’t for 14 more years that the 19th amendment, also known as “The Susan B. Anthony Amendment”, would be passed in congress.
