There are different theories on why he left but the most believable is that he could no longer afford the tuition and had to withdraw himself from the school. Joseph stayed in Tiflis after he dropped out to join the Revolutionary movement that was going on. He made money by having small jobs such as a tutor and as a clerk. Two years later in 1901 when Joseph dropped out he joined the Social Democratic Labor Party. Joseph was arrested many times for this Revolutionary that he believed in by doing actions such as coordinating labor strikes and actions like that.
Joseph soon played a big role in this Revolutionary. He would call meetings, organize strikes, and publishing leaflets. After Joseph escaped his exile after being arrested he became an outlaw and was wanted by the Okhrana, or the tsar’s secret police force. During this time Stalin got money by doing sinister acts such as robberies, kidnappings, and extortion. Stalin is maybe best known for his involvement in the 1907 Tiflis Bank Robbery that resulted in several deaths 250,000 rubes being stolen (translates to roughly 3.5 million dollars in the United States). In February 1917 the Revolution was finally coming into place. The tsar abdicated the throne and got placed under house arrest. They first tried to make a smooth transition into their power, but in April 1917 Vladimir Lenin decided that wasn’t going to work and that people should begin doing whatever it takes to have complete control.
