George started his fame at only nineteen, he was a starting pitcher and was playing for the Red Sox. Babe Ruth also batted and threw left handed. The positions he played was outfield and pitcher. George was an orphan but he believed that he wasn’t an orphan he was simply just a delinquent, he also believed for most of his life he was a year and a half older than he actually was (“Babe Ruth”).
Did George get his fame by being a batter or a pitcher? He was one of the top pitchers in the league. In fact, he could pitch 90 to 110 miles per hour! That was especially fast back then. When George was 23, he was arrested for reckless driving, he served jail time for two weeks. (“History Channel Babe Ruth”). When he was a teenager (about fifteen) his father died in a fight with one of his own family members they were both under the influence and George’s wife died under mysterious circumstances. While George was playing, in 1919 he hit 59 home runs in just one season. In fact George hit, in all, 714 home runs in his entire career. He made his final appearance in a dodgers game in 1943.
