Biographical Criticism There are a lot of ways that you can take a story and read it to make sense of what the author is trying to say. In the story The Things They Carried the easiest form to understand this story is if you read it with a mindset of biographical criticism. This essay will explain in detail why biographical criticism is the best method to use.
When reading the story “The Things They Carried” one can say that this is nothing but another classic love story, and maybe even has some similarities to a lot of the movies that are shown on T.V. But then realization starts to sink in and you say to yourself how does this author know so much military slang and know a lot of things that many people could not even write about without making it sound so cliché. 29 Issue 2, p1, 18 p).Although this form of reading is not bad to use when it comes to reading because it makes the reader pay close attention but so does biographical criticism the only difference between the two is that biographical criticism helps people understand a little more why the author may have chosen to write something a particular way. Literary analysis is more about using the symbols and putting the words to what it may mean regarding the symbols this method is best used when it comes to stories that are more fiction than the truth. That does not mean that this story was “true” but that this story was based on real life events that may have happened to O’Brien. Which is why biographical criticism is the best choice so one may draw up that conclusion
