Lean on me’s opening scene shows us East Side High in all its glory and prestige. However, the movie foreshadows twenty years later and the surroundings are completely transformed. There is graffiti on the walls. This shows us that there has been a change in leadership. Music can create a convincing atmosphere for setting and evoke true emotions for example when Mr Clark arrives at the school and sees the state of the once prestigious East Side High, the music in the background is one of gloom. Joe Clark was a man who valued the role that education played in the lives of students and felt that discipline was crucial for students to achieve their goals.
