Introduction
The possible uses of stem cells are a very controversial topic in modern biology and medicinal science. Stem cells are unspecialized body cells that have the ability to grow and develop into many various types of cells in the body. For example, a single stem cell has the potential to develop into a blood cell, a brain cell, a tissue cell, a muscle cell, or several other specialized cells. Stem cells have the ability to grow and divide into more stem cells, or into a more specialized cell that can be used in the body. Stem cells are always apparent in living organisms, and there are two major types. First, there are embryonic stem cells that are …show more content…
I work to study the various properties of stem cells that enable to be so unspecialized and unique from other body cells. By studying these properties, I will enhance my knowledge on the properties of stem cells and use this knowledge to progress research in medicinal science. These discoveries can further be used to test new drugs and create strategies to study embryonic growth. As a doctor I can use these new methods to use healthy stem cells to replace damaged cells in adult organisms, enhancing the health of my patients. Stem cells can be used to treat diseases by replacing damaged cells with healthy, unspecialized ones. They can be used in laboratories to test new drugs that could greatly progress scientific research. Last, stem cells are easily available to scientists because they can be derived from aborted fetuses. The use of stem cells derived from aborted fetuses has caused much controversy in modern society because of ethical reasons, based on uncertainty and personal rights.
