Pick one of these methods that you feel would be usable in YOUR city/village/town. How? Explain.
Response: The columbia.edu site presented information about USDA Organic. Since this certification is local to the United States and serves Buford, Georgia, specific methods of agriculture include the absence of traditional pesticides or petroleum-based fertilizers. It has not yet been determined all requirements to be certified USDA Organic, but there must be information for organic lawn care to curb an ailing phosphorous cycle. Post Lab 3 – Ecosystem Management: The Oak Savannah at High Park 1. The upper ravine slope of High Park’s oak savannahs consist primarily of black and white oak, shrubs, wildflowers, and grasses. These ecosystems also have very dry and sandy soil, which has caused the oaks to adapt to low soil nitrogen availability levels. Furthermore, the plants found in these savannahs are dependent on frequent fires to clear out the invasive species so they do not have to compete for light and also to sustain their open canopies. This causes less organic matter to be deposited in the soil leading to nutrient-deficient soils.…

In “What Are You Buying When You Buy Organic?” by Steven Shapin, Shapin discusses the current trend of people who are migrating to eating organic food only but also moves to dismiss any false connotations of what it truly means to be eating organic products. Shapin brings up the popular assumption that farms that claim to produce organic products are imagined to be a small family-owned business. That was not the case, as evidenced by Shapin’s article, where he pointed out that one of the biggest organic food producers, Earthbound Farm, went from a two-and-a-half-acre farm into a combined 26 thousand acres farming space. In addition, Earthbound Farm has production plants in different parts of the country which conjures up images of a large cooperate operation. (429) To keep up with the world…
