I abruptly sat up in my bed, coughing and gasping for air. All around me was darkness and silence. I remember being terrified as I tried to scream out to my parents. Luckily, my parents had awoken to my coughing and were able to rush me to the ER. Reliving this experience has been my greatest fear. For years my asthma and allergies were not under control. I was on multiple medications, and saw little to no relief. After speaking with our local pharmacist, my parents and I were informed that my inhaler was not being used properly. The pharmacist then, took the time to explain how the inhaler should be used. I was touched by the time and care my pharmacist had given me. With his assistance, I had finally gotten the relief I needed. It is moments …show more content…
One class that I enjoyed in particular was Nucleic Acids, where I learned about genomic studies and its applications. One concept that caught my attention in particular was bringing the study of genes and pharmacology together in order to provide a more effective treatment tailored to individuals. Another course that has greatly influenced me was Cancer Biochemistry. This course reinforced my knowledge of the cycles and pathways occurring in the body and introduced the errors in these processes leading to cancer. Along with my studies, I began to take an interest in research. This led me to join a lab in the Biology and Biochemistry department. I started out by learning basic laboratory skills and then moved on to working on a project of my own. I will also be receiving a minor in Business Foundations. I chose this minor in particular, because it was designed to give non-business students an understanding of the fundamentals of business. The knowledge I have gained form my education has given me a stronger grasp of the natural sciences and business, which are both important aspects of pharmacy. Having a background in the natural sciences is key in understanding diseases and the medication used to treat these ailments. Understanding fundamental business skills are also an important skill for pharmacists who have to work in a health care system that is moving towards a more efficient and cost-effective

She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies.…

Personal Statement I am writing this Personal Statement in support of my application to study for a Master’s degree in Biochemistry at the California State University Sacramento. My interest in Biochemistry has always been a real world interest, and my desire to study Biochemistry at the Master’s level is likewise fueled by the imperativeness of the subject and the crucial role it plays in our everyday lives. The part I want to play as a Biochemist – in bringing to the world's attention the implications of current health practices, various diseases, and living processes – is in my point of view, the essence of biochemical studies. Society has continued solving challenges, seemingly insurmountable and perhaps more pressing than we have ever faced – I strive to be at the forefront of the “solution-finding” as a research scientist.…
