Biochemistry Personal Statement Essay

My choice to have biochemistry as my major was the most logical, because for all of my life I have been interested in what life is composed of. I looked at the incredible things that people and animals do and I found that all the intricate working of biology and chemistry that made all of their actions possible, only added to the awesomeness of it all. Another important factor in my life that started my interest into the science of biology was my mother, who has a genetic anemia called Fanconi Anemia. She has lived with this genetic disease for all of her life and it has had a toll on her quality of life. From my earliest memories she has struggled with blood transfusions and bone marrow biopsies. Even on the days away from the hospital she …show more content…
In regards to graduate school I only have a few schools in mind, one of them being Pitt. The same interest that drives me to pursue an education in biochemistry also drives me to go into psychology. For graduate school I will study psychology with great intensity in order to become a professional in the field of Neuropsychology. I have studied on my own time the relationship between personality and its effect on people. To work in such a field where I could help people and hopefully mend their ailments would be my self actualisation. I have always tended toward helping those who are the underdogs or that are struggling with issues. I find it easy to understand people and I believe that insight would make Neuropsychology the perfect career choice for me. In my mother's case I believe it is her attitude toward her illness that has kept her in such good health. For the aforementioned reason she is well on her way to becoming the oldest surviving person with Fanconi's and also why I find such amazement in the relationship between biology, the chemistry that goes with it and

The human body is arguably the most researched organism on Earth. The intricate relationship between molecular, anatomical and physiological characteristics of it astounds me, yet what interests me most is not how powerful the human body is as a whole, but how ultimately our physiology can fail us. Studying biology at an undergraduate level will allow me to grasp a deeper understanding as to why this happens, as well as develop my existing knowledge of the mechanisms involved in keeping humans alive. A-level biology has provided me with a broad spectrum of knowledge; topics outlining the function of the body, such as the circulatory system and the immune system, have further stimulated my desire to pursue degree level study.…

My interest in Biochemistry has always been a real world interest, and my desire to study Biochemistry at the Master’s level is likewise fueled by the imperativeness of the subject and the crucial role it plays in our everyday lives. The part I want to play as a Biochemist – in bringing to the world's attention the implications of current health practices, various diseases, and living processes – is in my point of view, the essence of biochemical studies. Society has continued solving challenges, seemingly insurmountable and perhaps more pressing than we have ever faced – I strive to be at the forefront of the “solution-finding” as a research scientist.…
