Billy The Kid Was NOT A Hero

Improved Essays
I claim that Billy the Kid was not a hero.
Billy the Kid was not a hero because he was a murderer. A hero doesn't murder. Just because you kill someone doesn't mean you're not a hero. Many heroes have killed people. But there's a fine line between killing someone and murdering someone. The law even says so. According to the Bible and the Constitution of the United States of America, killing can be justified but never murder. A hero kills an evil person to defend the lives of others. A murder kills another human out of hatred for selfish reasons. Billy the Kid did not kill people, he murdered them. Billy’s first murder took place in August of 1877. Billy was at a cantina in Arizona when a blacksmith named Cahill called Billy a name. Billy the

Heros generally don't join a gang of criminals. Usually a hero actually tries to defeat the criminals, not join them. I said usually because I know what you’re thinking. You are most likely thinking of Robin Hood. He was looked at as a hero because he committed criminal acts, but for the common good not for selfish reasons. That's a very good point, a person can commit criminal acts and still be looked at as a hero. Unfortunately, Billy the Kid was no Robin Hood. One of the most famous criminal acts the gang committed was stealing livestock from Tunstall a local rancher. They stole because they were hired by another rancher who didn't like the competition. This isn't exactly heroic. Payed organized crime. This reminds me of the Mafia, a group I wouldn't call heroic. After this Billy was presented with the opportunity to join Tunstall when the tensions were getting higher. Billy joined Tunstall. Billy worked as a ranch hand for Tunstall. Tunstall was kind of like a father to Billy. Tunstall was later killed by a sheriff's posse. Billy wanted revenge and the gang ambushed the Sheriff and his Deputy and killed them. Although this was revenge it was looked at as evil. Warrants were put out for the gang's arrest. Billy and his gang were surrounded in a house. The house was set ablaze and Billy and the gang ran out. Billy managed to escape. Billy was on the run, a fugitive. While on the run he joined other gangs, and continued

In the Lincoln County War, Billy the Kid was a friend of the English businessman, John Henry Tunstall, and had vowed to avenge the death of Tunstall after he witnessed the Englishman’s assassination. Tunstall came to New Mexico well aware of the corrupt business that Lawrence G. Murphy had created and aimed to make a competing business to profit off of the monopoly, of practically everything, that Murphy controlled. Once Tunstall founded his company Murphy had already grew ill and the business was then primarily ran by John Dolan and John Riley. Tunstall had acquired land and cattle to make a ranch, which is where he befriended Billy the Kid whom he hired as a chuck wagon cook and later, a cattle guard. Billy the Kid and Tunstall developed…

Many rebellions have happened over time but this one is Shays Rebellion. Although many think the farmers harmed the country, nevertheless they actually helped it so they hero fighters because they helped each other from unlawful punishments, spoke up for what they thought, and kept the government/ country growing. The farmers were hero fighters because they kept each other from the unlawful punishment by the Judges. This idea came from Daniel Gray when he wrote “now the government will not allow people to petition the court to make sure their imprisonment is lawful.…

When someone undermines the government for the greater good, can they be considered a hero? In Little Brother, a high school senior named, Marcus Yallow, risks his safety in attempt to save his town. He was on the streets after a bombing of the Bay Bridge, then he was taken to a “prison” to be questioned to make sure he wasn’t a terrorist. Marcus arrived home 3 days later and was absolutely furious with Homeland Security and he was going to do something about it. In Little Brother, by Cory Doctorow, I personally think that Marcus is a hero because not many people have done something as brave as going against the government and he just wanted to help the citizens of his city.…

They could be short, tall, green, blue, as long as they have the correct intentions, they can save and help others. There are also dangerous people who may be considered villains or threats. That is usually someone who causes destruction in their paths, constantly wreaking havoc on people, places, animals, and anything else they would like to maim. Sometimes they both cross paths, more often than not, but what if one was misunderstood.…

    Who Is Sammy A Hero

Is a hero defined by his actions, or by the reasons behind those actions? I believe in the latter, and in John Updike’s story, “A+P,” the character Sammy is a perfect example of this. He does something that may seem heroic to some people, but because Updike gives us this story in through the perspective of Sammy we can see his true thoughts behind the decisions he makes. I believe that Sammy is not a hero because the one action that might could have been perceived in the story as “heroic” was just a selfish act, he is very judgmental towards other people in the story, and he acts before he thinks, which is not a trait a hero would have.…

A true hero is: someone who puts others needs in front of theirs and never does anything bad to hurt anyone. In The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton, three law-breaking Greasers are said to be heros from saving a few kids from a fire. But, a hero stays with that sense of heroism forever, which Johnny and Dally don’t have, but Pony seems to be the only one that does. Even though, Johnny and Dally may have had a small sense of heroism when they were willing to risk their lives to save the children, there are too many other moments where they ruined their chances of earning a medal of honor. But, Ponyboy has the right sense of being a hero.…

“I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place for all people” said Maya Angelou, poet and social activist. This quote by Maya Angelou helps to explain many of the characters in Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. I feel that this quote really helps explain that everyone can be a hero, and that it doesn’t matter if you’re a black man fighting the Jim Crow laws, or a young boy trying to protect his sister.…

It’s commonly told that any animal with sympathy, will willingly take in another creature as their own. Such as wolves raising a human child, a familiar tale of an unlikely group loving an anomaly to their standards. In such cases, the species can be very much alike, such as a human to a human, however their personalities, traits, and natural environments are very different. This is seen throughout The Outsiders, within the Greaser Gang everyone has a different home life, personality, and have all grown up differently. Some people do not know that they are even someone’s hero. When a person has the power to stand strong and fight for what they believe in they too can be a hero. These are the type of people that give others hope and save lives each and every day. You do not have to have super powers to save someone, you do not have to be in a position or a career where the main goal is to save someone’s life such as a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Heroes can be everyday people, such as a teacher; who teaches kids the everyday essentials of life to grow and be a better person, a parent; who guides and raise their children and protect their children, and even a janitor or trash man; people that help keep the environment clean for our safety and…
