Billy Joe From AC/Dc's Highway To Hell

Improved Essays
Billy Joe was an eccentric man. He liked to think big, and act bigger. And most of the time, this wasn’t a problem, but today was the day of the first meeting of the Board of Really Tall Buildings. The conference room was on the 8th floor of the 24-floor building. Overall, it wasn’t that high up, unless you were falling from the window. But who would ever do such a thing? Certainly not Billy Joe.

The meeting had started off fine, with various board members giving their presentations. They were all the same, with cardstock graphs and statistics and a stick to point at things. Billy Joe knew that his Powerpoint presentation, backed up by AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell”, would be far better. He toyed with the clicker in his pocket, prepared to stand and give the best speech any of those executives had ever heard.

His hands shook when he clicked the screen to life, and his voice wobbled as he began. He wasn’t sure what had come over him, but suddenly, the urge to jump out the window and grow wings made itself at home within him.

‘Maybe I shouldn’t’a had that gosh darned Redbull. It was right there in the advert, yes, sir it was.’

Billy Joe cleared his throat. “Allow me to start again.” he said, his Texan drawl thick and dripping off his words. He began to speak again, but then; disaster.

As soon as the first word left his mouth, he let out a loud ‘yeeeeeeeeeeeee’HAWWWWWWWWWW’ and leapt out the window. The glass shattered, and as he began to flap his arms as though they were wings, his sanity came back to him.

“Aw, shucks.” he said, his body beginning to soar to the ground.

Above him, he heard shouts from his coworkers. One of them had called the paramedics, but by the time he let out the sigh of relief, he was face first on the concrete.

My outside speaker critique I attended a class where my introduction to supply chain management professor brought in Andrew Goltra who is currently the Director of Merchandising at ULine. Andrew’s presentation took about an hour or so. Andrew Goltra was a very good speaker, but there was definitely some room for improvement based off what I have learned about with presentation best practices. I could have a long list of both good and bad aspects during his presentation, but for the sake of this assignment I’m going to focus on five aspects from his speech that involved both good and bad practices. The pros of Andrew Goltra’s presentation include: how he established his credibility, usage of visual aids, and his delivery; The cons of the presentation…

This paper had all of his hard work from the past few months on it, so “it was hard for him to understand that he actually had to abandon it.” Abandoning the paper wasn’t an option so by instinct he climbed out the window to retrieve it. After he retrieved the paper and looked down below “of what lay below him; and he knew he had made a mistake in not making himself stare down at the street.” Frozen in pure fear from what he just saw, “he couldn’t bring himself to make the slightest movement.” He thought of the different scenarios of what were to happen if he were to fall and “he understood fully that he might actually be going to die.”…
